The James A Garfield Water Pitcher- This silver Victorian Ice water pitcher was donated to James Abram Garfield, while he campaigned for the presidency in October 1880, by the Junior Hose Company (a volunteer firefighter company) of Chambersburg, PA. Garfield was elected as the 20th President of the United States in November 1880. The Pitcher was donated to Hiram College on May 2, 1990. During the Victorian era, ice water pitchers were common in American homes. Filled with ice, they kept water cold all day. |
