Description |
This example of "dot art" or stippling, morphs the image of Materials Park, the World Headquarters of the American Society for Metals (ASM) into clusters of dots of various densities. Materials Park (previously known as Metals Park) was built in 1959 and designed by Cleveland architect, John Terence Kelly. Kelly derived his design for the distinctive dome on R. Buckminster Fuller's geodesic dome. The ASM dome consists of 13 miles of aluminum tubing, weighing 80 tons. The dome rises over a semi-circular office building which partially encompasses the William Hunt Eisenman Garden which features over 75 different minerals. Eisenman served as the National Secretary for the Society from 1918 to 1958 and donated the land on which Materials Park resides. |
