Black and white photograph of a portrait of Vivian Kepler Combes done by her husband, Willard W. Combes. Verso contains an obituary which reads "Mrs. Willard W. Combes. From the time she entered the old Cleveland Art School as a student, where she met her future husband, Mrs. Vivian Kepler Combes maintained a vivid interest in art. She was skillful in the crafts, such as weaving, and occasionally modeled for portrait and sculpture. She modeled for the figure of the nurse in the statue of St. Luke that stands before St. Luke Hospital. Mrs. Combes was 55 when she died this morning in Huron Road Hospital. She had been ill a number of years. She was born in Akron. She left art school to enter nurses' training and for a time practiced nursing. She and her husband, Willard W., were married in England when he was studying art on a scholarship to the University of London. He is editorial cartoonist for The Press and a well-known portrait painter. Mrs. Combes was a member of the Cleveland Heights Civic Club, the PTA and Euclid Avenue Christian Church. Surviving besides her husband are her mother, Mrs. Maude Frederick of Akron; two sons, Richard W. and William K., and three grandchildren. The family home is at 1266 Oakridge Dr., Cleveland Heights. Friends may call Thursday from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Fairhill House of Miliard Son & Raper Funeral Home. Services will be conducted there Friday at 11 a.m." |
