Description |
"Wall between Hotel Clarendon and Chinatown" -- photo verso. "A temporary injunction, restraining wreckers from demolishing the north wall of Hotel Clarendon, located at St. Clair avenue and Ontario street, was granted to David R. Hawley this afternoon by Appellate Judge Willis Vickery. Arguments for a permanent injunction will be heard in the September term of the Court of Appeals. The suit has grown out of a controversy originating in a contract signed in 1870, the substance of which was that the Hotel Clarendon (shown at right above) and the building next door, 1291 Ontario street (at left of wall) were to use the same dividing wall. Now Jacob Bassichis, owner of the block from 1291 to 1307 Ontario street, is tearing his building down, a procedure which would leave the rooms on the north side of the hotel exposed to the elements." -- article photo verso. |
