John Patrick Murphy (1887-1969) was a lawyer and businessman whose railroad expertise led to his association with the Van Sweringens and The Higbee Company, a Van Sweringen interest acquired in 1929. As Higbee Co. president, Murphy founded the John P. Murphy Foundation in 1960 to promote his interest in Catholic education, hospitals, and music.
