DescriptionThe Honam-Hotchkiss house, a stone house built in 1838 by John Honam, a Scots weaver, Honam owned property between Belle Ave. and Warren Rd., north of Detroit Ave. to the lake. The house was built of Berea sandstone from a quarry on Cook Ave. and originally stood in what what would become the center of St. Charles Ave. It was used as a residence until 1870 and afterwards as a post office, shoe repair shop, grocery, doctor's office, barbershop, and upholsterer's. About 1902 it was moved behind the building at 14700 Detroit Ave. In 1952 it was moved to Lakewood Park and is now the home of the Lakewood Historical Society.
