| Description | Peter P. Carlin was an assistant superintendent of Cleveland public schools from 1972 to 1978. Following the resignation of Superintendent Paul W. Briggs, the school board named Carlin as interim superintendent to become effective July 1, 1978. He would serve the district until the school board was able to appoint a new superintendent. On September 14, 1978, the school board appointed Carlin as superintendent for a three-year term. Carlin served as superintendent of Cleveland public schools until his contract expired on July 31, 1982. Prior to the expiration of his contract, the school board and Carlin negotiated the terms of his resignation. Under the terms of the agreement, Carlin promised not to pursue legal action against the school board and the school board offered him a two-year contract to work as an assistant to the president of the school board. The state, however, did not appove of the agreement and vetoed the arrangement. The school board voted not to renew Carlin's contract on February 25, 1982. He was succeeded by Dr. Frederick D. Holliday. |
