"Driving a stake on the boundary between Valley View and Independence on the new, 2 1/2-mile extension of Pleasant Valley Rd. are the police chiefs of the two communities. Independence Chief Allen Baur (left) and Valley View Chief Charles D. Dalton drove the stake during ceremonies yesterday signaling the opening of the $2,800,000 roadway which connects Pleasant Valley Rd. and Alexander Rd. Standing immediately behind the chiefs are: Independence Mayor W. Pete Wisnieski, County Engineer Albert Porter, Valley View Mayor Albert C. Allen, and Walton Hills Clerk Merlin Bement."
